Astwood Bank Carousel

Astwood Bank Operatic Society is putting on their show Carousel at the Redditch Palace Theatre this week (running 14th – 17th March) with the support of the Astwood Bank Carnival team.

Over the past year the Operatic Society have helped out at numerous carnival events by running the Tea Tent on Carnival day in July, but then went on to act out the Astwood Bank Carnival Murder Mystery evening in November, which was a great success. They then added to this great community spirit by leading the carol singing at the Astwood Bank Carnival Carols in the Park event just before Christmas. All of this not only helped the community hold these events but vitally helped raise funds with the rest of the Astwood Bank Carnival team.

So in November last year when the Carnival Committee were looking how to share a £7,000 pot of money between numerous local groups and good causes, they were delighted to provide funding towards the storage of the Operatic Society’s props and stage scenery. In addition to that they have been able to fund the printing costs of the programme for this week’s show at the Palace Theatre.

Ashley Hewitt, Chair Astwood Bank Carnival commented that “This is a great example of how through the community working together we can really help each other. Astwood bank Carnival is all about working with our local co
mmunity, and as part of that we are always looking for groups such as the Operatic Society to work closely with us so that we all benefit. I wish them all the best for what I’m sure will be another excellent performance this week, and I’m glad that we were able to help put the show on in some small way.”

Steve Skinner, Acting Chair of Astwood Bank Operatic Society said “Putting on our annual show at the Palace Theatre brings joy to all of our members as well as those that come along and support us. None of this would be possible without the support of local businesses and groups such as the Astwood Bank Carnival Committee. We look forward to identifying how we can support each other through the coming year, and are already looking forward to Carnival day on July 14th.”
