2011 further down the page
The theme was “Myths and Legends” and we have never seen so many Georges and Dragons in the village!
Considering it was July it was disappointing day weather wise. The day started with the team looking out from the marquee on a field full of water with torrential rain and a lot of our stall holders sitting in their cars deciding whether they really wanted to get out and set up. The floats turned up but it was cold and wet so a lot of brollies about. The Carnival Royalty had on their fabulous frocks and tiaras but posh wellies on their feet – OH DEAR! But you couldn’t see their feet in the horse drawn carriage.
Eventually though the sun came out and the rain stopped before procession and stayed away until after the last guests had gone home.
Pictures from 2011 include the committee in fancy dress as they sold raffle tickets in pubs and clubs around Astwood Bank and surrounding areas.
There are a number of pictures of floats which include the winning float put together by The Rainbows, The Scouts who got 3rd prize with their George and Dragon, The YMCA who played ‘YMCA’ all round the village on their float, The Stables Farm crew transformed themselves into The Gods of Olympus and Redditch Operatics looked incredible in their King and I costumes.
There were some great entries for the best dressed business window – see Astwood Galleries photos and the wonderful winning window of Astwood Flowers. Also some super entries for best dressed property including two in Avenue Road with the winning entry being King Arthur.
Down on the carnival field the bouncy castle was tested out before the kiddies got to it by some of our committee including Jenny, Tim, Ash, David – we are all big kids at heart.
Other photos from 2011 include the Teddy Bears Picnic which took place in the rain on Overdale Park but there were a lot of teddies entered for the best dressed competition. The winner got tickets to Cadbury World
Then the best bit of the Carnival year when we got to give away the hard earned money by cheque to the numerous charities requesting funding. See a selection of pics.
