Astwood Bank Carnival were able to make a small contribution towards the successful running of this year’s Remembrance parade. As well as helping organise the road closure and its marshalling, the Carnival Royalty laid a wreath on behalf of everyone involved with the Astwood Bank Carnival. The Astwood Bank in Bloom group, along with the support of Botany Bay, were able to make sure that the war memorial was appropriately planted up along with ensuring red flowers were on display in the bed outside of the church. This is truly a community wide event and as the Carnival Committee we feel privileged to be able to support it.
Mass Bulb Planting
The first ever Astwood Bank mass bulb planting was a great success on Saturday 5th November with about 20 adults and an equal number of enthusiastic youngsters from Scouts, Beavers and Guides helping plant some 2,000 daffodil bulbs, in amazingly about an hour. Apart from the two parks, several other sites around the village have been planted up and we now all await the blooms forcing their way through in Spring. Thanks to everyone who came along and made it such a great success, but also thanks to Redditch Borough Council who donated the majority of the bulbs.
Wider ABIB News
In addition the Astwood Bank in Bloom group have been busy replanting all of the large planters and two flower beds either end of Evesham Road. Thanks to the group of residents that have taken on looking after the bed near Ridgeway Academy, it’s looking great.
For anyone wondering where the wooden flower troughs under the street signs have gone, well we’ve put them away for the winter, but they’ll definitely be back for next summer. Thanks to anyone who help look after them.
We hope everyone has enjoyed the extra splash of colour we have been able to provide to the village during the summer months. Our thanks go out to everyone who has contributed to maintaining the displays whether they be the beds, the large planters or the wooden troughs under the street signs. During October you will see the major displays being replanted for the Autumn / Spring with funding provided by our local county councillors Philip Gretton and Stuart Cross.

Alcester Waitrose Community Matters – Green token scheme
For those of you that shop at Waitrose I’m sure you are familiar with the green token scheme that they run to support local community groups.
During October Astwood Bank in Bloom will be one of the three groups that you will be asked to place your token in to. So please do support us by putting your token in our pot. The more tokens we get the more money we will receive from Waitrose, the more plants we can put out next year!
